With the winter sports season almost over, it’s time to throw it forward to spring sports and what to expect from the upcoming season.

The new season comes with a lot of changes for the track program. First off, assistant coach Kyle Riches has taken over as head coach after Jackee Bruno, the former head coach, left his post. Darrin Garcia, father of junior Maia Garcia and freshman Mateo Garcia, will also be joining the team as a coach. To accommodate these changes, former coaches Matt Stimson and Larry Williams will be departing the team. Maia Garcia, a top 10 female high jumper, will be following her father to the team, which should give the track team a boost in term of their CCS championship hopes.

Boys tennis will also be starting soon in what is to be a season of rebuilding after losing many quality seniors last year such as Quincy Linder, Kase Van Der Linde and Theo Shapiro. Senior Aaron Movshovich also sustained a shoulder injury that may keep him out for the season. However, the tennis team still has high hopes for the season due to a slew of returning players, including senior Peter Schusser and juniors Frank Liu and Ethan Stangenes, and the new additions of superstar freshmen Jason Rowe and Syon Mallempati.

The softball team also has multitude of returning talent in seniors Kiley Haberkorn, Katie Woods, and Hannah Johnson and juniors Morgan Van Der Linde and Karla Hernandez-Cid. Occidental signee and star pitcher Ellery Mitchell will be manning the mound in her final year of her high school career. The coaching staff is also wholly returning.

Swimming, led by senior Pitzer commit Abigail Liao, will be looking to make a deep CCS run this season. Coach and trainer Theresa Maksim is looking forward to this season.

The baseball team is expected to make a push for the championship following a strong showing last year. With the core of the roster, including seniors Liam Smith and Quinn Bates and junior Eric Burton returning, the team has high hopes for this season. The team was already one of the strongest competitors in their league, and their new talent may put them in serious CCS conversation.
