As Pinewood is in the STEM-consumed Silicon Valley, The Perennial has decided to highlight innovative breakthroughs pertaining to science and technology.
British physicist Stephen Hawking has dawned upon his latest prediction: Doomsday is not as far away as one might think it is. His latest warning gives humanity no more than 583 years before Earth is burned. Noting that the world’s population has been doubling every 40 years, Hawking said at the Tencent WE Summit that “by the year 2600, the world’s population would be standing shoulder to shoulder, and the electricity consumption would make the Earth glow red-hot.”
In the face of this impending disaster, efforts are being made to search for a home in the neighboring solar system. The Breakthrough Starshot initiative plans to send a nano sized spacecraft powered by photon sails on a mission past Alpha Centauri, the closest star system to the Solar System with a distance of 4.37 light years from the Sun. The spacecraft would travel at an astonishing 46,500 miles per second.
