Music of the Month

This month has been full of great new music, and there is even more to come: new singles, new EPs, and new albums.

Khalid, a young pop and R&B singer, came out with his first album in 2017 called American Teen, leving many people, including me, anticipating more music this year. In July, Khalid released a single called “Eastside” with Halsey and Benny Blanco that quickly rose up on the top charts. On Oct. 19, he released a new EP called “Suncity”, dedicated to his hometown in Texas, that I fell in love with. If you listen to the album in order, the songs perfectly mesh together to create a beautiful story about Khalid’s love for his city, and I enjoyed the meaning and emotion behind every song. Before this EP was released, he also came out with one single called “Better” that was a part of this EP, and immediately upon playing it, the beat comes on and brings a groovy, soft vibe that is indescribable. This album is full of songs to put stir your emotions and make you want to sit under the stars and talk with friends for hours.

Lil Yachty, known for his feature on the single “Broccoli” by DRAM, came out with an album called “Nuthin’ 2 Prove” on Oct. 19, and it has risen on the hip hop and top charts. Many artists including Cardi B, Offset, Lil Baby, and Playboi Carti are featured on the album, which immediately draws people to it. Most of the songs intro with a catchy, choppy beat, complimenting his autotuned voice and making it easy to start dancing and rap along with him. However, his music is a hit or miss; moreover, if you enjoy rap music and artists like Lil Uzi Vert and Playboi Carti, you will enjoy this new album by Lil Yachty.

Billie Eilish released a single called “when the party’s over” on Oct. 19 that opens with her angelic humming and laps over with her soft, glassy voice as she seemingly pours her heart out on this single. This song will make you want to scream, thrash, cry, and laugh all at the same time, and it is one that you should definitely listen to if you have not yet. Ella Mai, a British R&B singer known for her single “Boo’d Up,” released an album on Oct. 12 that is full of bouncy, light-hearted songs and emotional, soulful ballads as well. My favorite songs so far have been “Trip” and “Whachamacallit (feat. Chris Brown)” because both of these are easy to vibe and listen to whether you are driving in the car, doing homework, or hanging out with friends.

October has proved to be a successful music month with the release of these new albums and singles. Get ready for November and some even more new songs from artists like Zayn, The 1975, Imagine Dragons, and Mumford and Sons!
