The girls varsity soccer team has gotten off to a start that no one saw coming.
“[This season] has gone past my expectations,” Coach Whitney Wood said. The team gets better after every game with the help of leaders, senior Leah Hess and junior Olivia Biggs, and has a good chance of winning league this year. They are now preparing to play Crystal Springs Uplands, heading into the match with a 3-4-2 record, with Crystal’s record at 7-4. However, in league, Pinewood is 1-0-1, but Crystal still leads 3-0. A win in this game is pivotal in the season in order to have a good chance of winning the league.
“I think we have a good chance at winning league. It’s going to be tough, but we have a chance,” Wood said.
Boys soccer has also built a quality season so far, according to sophomore Clayton Hodgett.
“We’re doing a lot better than last year, even though we lost a lot of good seniors… We’ve improved a lot since the beginning of the semester,” Hodgett said.
