Getting back into the rhythm of school can be tough, but there are a few things you can do to adapt to school life a little better. Personalizing your space is a quick and efficient way to do this.

There are many ways you can customize your locker to make you feel a little more at home. For example, you can print photos of your friends and family to tape them in your locker. Decorating your locker is a great way to personalize your space.

Don’t forget to accessorize!

We all need bookmarks, right? For this activity, you will need a hole puncher, colorful paper,  ribbons, yarn,  and a laminator.

Start with nice paper and cut it to 1.5 by 6 inches. Round the corners and hole punch the top. Now it’s time to decorate. Glue on words or phrases from magazine cut-outs.

Colorful shapes are fun too. When finished, laminate the bookmark, make a hole with a hole puncher, and run some yarn or twine through the hole.

Backpack tags are another great way to accessorize your school gear. Similar to a bookmark, you will cut nice paper or an index card to 2.5 by 3.5 feet. Decorate one side with a large initial, and on the other side, you can include your full name and contact information in case you leave your backpack in the quad. Hole punch, laminate, and tie with a colorful ribbon to your backpack.

Don’t forget to customize your accessories at home too. A mason jar makes an excellent pencil holder. It’s a simple way to organize your pens and pencils.

Remove the lids, spray with a white primer, then, using a foam paint brush and acrylic paint, decorate the jar. Two coats of paint and a layer of spray-on sealer will work best. Once dry, put the lid on and fill the jar with pencils.

Staying organized saves you the time of frantically sifting through a messy backpack to find materials; you can instead use those minutes on studying, exercising, or sleeping.

You can use DIYs to live a healthier and happier life!
