The athlete of the month for girl’s varsity volleyball is junior Maddi Escher. She has been crucial in helping the girls to their two wins. Almost all of Escher’s stats are well above the national average. In this month she has a 0.106 hitting percentage, eight aces, and thirteen kills, which are equivalent to 0.8 aces and 1.3 kills a set. Escher was selected as the player of the game in Pinewood’s tough loss against Alma Heights.

The athlete of the month for Pinewood football is undoubtedly junior Bo Fick. Although the football season is only three games old, Fick has been an integral part of the Panthers’ three blowout victories. Along with his defensive domination–two interceptions and countless sacks and tackles–Fick has also been effective on offense, with several receiving touchdowns and a rushing touchdown to his name.

“[Fick is] a monster on defense,” said football coach Sam Stewart, which really does sum it up. Fick received the game ball for Pinewood’s game against Crystal Springs, which they won 76-0.

The athlete of the month for cross country is senior Michael Bodine. One of the best runners Pinewood has ever had, Bodine hopes to come out strong in cross country’s young season.

“[Michael is] an extremely physically gifted runner [and is] becoming a better leader within the group,” said coach Sam Stewart. Bodine dominated the competition last year, and is expected to do so this year as well.

The athlete of the month for girl’s tennis is freshman Allison Browne. She has won every single one of her matches and is steadily climbing up the ladder. Browne has shown herself to truly be a top tennis player, and is expected to be a force to be reckoned with in her sophomore, junior, and senior years. Her crowning achievement this month was winning the girl’s Santa
Catalina tournament.
